He wasn't getting anywhere with this girl so he and his buddies decided to spray beer at a group of girls. Bad game or bullying? Come on. What moron would think that this could ever, ever get a girl interested? And then, because that's not humiliating enough, they pull the Borat stunt.
If the story is accurate, that wasn't called for at all. If they'd been having a good rapport and everything going well and then he pulls that, MAYBE I'd side with you on the bad game (or at least just a poor sense of humor thinking it would be funny), but the story doesn't suggest that at all. The bottom line is that these guys were strangers to the girls. Drinking with someone for an hour doesn't give you the privilege of "friend" status.
If she didn't even welcome his buying her a shot, why do you think that type of 'joke' would be appropriate? Add to that the fact that the bag was being used for sandals and socks and it's pretty disgusting.
The only people this was a joke to was the group of guys. Unless she lied or left out some pretty big details, there's no other way to see this than as bullying. You think she's being sensitive? Please. I've seen big ol' rough and tough manly man guys get their panties in a bunch for much, much less. And I'll bet ya damn near any money that YOU would freak the fuck out if a group of guys you only knew over a few drinks did that to you. Tell me I'm wrong.
