The point is it's not the optimal look on Gosling. Thats why Gosling hasn't had a buzz cut in almost 15 years. His appeal among women also sky rocketed for both the roles and him improving his looks over the years. Thats what most men should be doing, maximize what you have.

Also, the angle of that rear protrusion matches the angle of his nose.
