Dubstep Music Thread

Dubstep music in my opinion has a lot going for it that gets overlooked (due to cheesy mainstream imitations of the genre aka Skrillex + all the wobble Bro-step crap the kids love)

Hopefully this will help to introduce someone to a Genre of music that they might not have explored otherwise.

What is Dubstep? (Credit to Wiki)

Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in South London, England. It emerged in the late 1990s as a development within a lineage of related styles such as 2-step garage, dub, techno, drum and bass, broken beat, jungle, and reggae. In the UK the origins of the genre can be traced back to the growth of the Jamaican sound system party scene in the early 1980s. The music generally features sparse, syncopated drum and percussion patterns with bass lines that contain prominent sub bass frequencies.

For a closer look into the Genre and how it evolved over the years this Documentary does a good job at explaining.

Sub-Genres

As with any type of Electronic music people will try their best to make as many sub-genres as possible.

To keep things simple, I’ll split them by what I’ve always known them to be.

I’ll post my personal favorites in each sub-genre, please feel free to contribute with your own so we can explore artists we wouldn’t have otherwise.

I have no idea what subgenre it is but Urbanstep's Welcome to Wonderland album has been on my playlist of writing/programming music for about a month.

I haven't spent much time exploring the genre yet. But after some more digging around, apparently what I like is best described as vocal-less melodic dubstep. Sure, why not?
