I heard an interview on Tim Kelly's podcast (I believe with Ryan Dawson or Borzoi?) about how June was selected as pride month because it was typically the month of fertility. Supposedly in Roman times there was some taboo or superstition about marrying during May, and marriages have always occured most frequently during the warm summer months, so June has been traditionally, and I believe still is, the period when most couples choose to enter into holy matrimony.
Which is why the month is targeted for the anal celebrations of course. Also, as of July 5, many companies are still using the rainbow symbols (using a rainbow for brown buttsex is another inversion and destruction of something beautiful and holy).
