The insanity of "bulking"

I think there is a certain type of person who is inclined to fuck up the bulking process by neither getting more muscular nor significantly stronger.

That said, I think the idea of a clean bulk is something of a misnomer personally, although I wouldn't dispute the value more generally of ensuring all of your food sources are good quality and nutritious. For me personally, I can easily get fat eating clean twice a day, just by eating until I'm full. I have a prodigious appetite, and could happily put away 1500+ calories in rice and meat at each meal. Start eating salads with avocado and nuts as a delicious, nutritious side, and it's easy to see how you can very quickly get quite soft.

1. Don't bulk unless you're 15% body fat or leaner (preferably 10-12%).

2. Clean bulk.

3. No more than a 500 calorie surplus.

Otherwise you'll just get fat.

I don't agree with Rippetoe on very many things, but the concept of "GOMAD" is fucking disgusting for everyone involved and is probably one of the worst things he has ever made "popular" or well known.

I remember reading some of his posts where he was bragging about turning skinny kids into fatties. You might as well buy them a pack of cigarettes at that point.

Also, don't blame your wrists for your own lack of effort. Every lifter has pictures of themselves when they, you know, DIDN'T LIFT WEIGHTS and how skinny and frail they looked compared to now.

I graduated highschool at all of 150 lbs, six foot nothing with the bitchiest wrists you have ever seen. I'm still not even that big, but you wouldn't have guessed that I was going anywhere at all judging by my highschool pictures.
