01:55 on the video we meet the South African ANC 'Land' minister Derek Hanekom. White, blue eyed, fair haired, beardy, Northern European sounding name.. probably an Afrikaner right? And what's he saying?
Well the video is about what was happening in 1995 after the ANC took power. The Govt was set on giving land back to black communities who had previously been 'dispossessed' of their 'ancestral' lands (see land-rights controversies with Aboriginals in Australia).
They show a farmer who has lost his wife, who for years has ploughed all his profits back into his humble farm.
The state seems officially missing when it comes to talking to this farmer - but all over the media when it comes to telling the world that they are giving HIS farm back to the 'dispossessed'.
Theres footage of the farmer awkwardly going to meet the blacks who are barbecuing on his land. He says okay Im alright with you being given my land as long as the state compensates me'. The response of the blacks' leader is 'well its not fair on us to pay you because we bought the land before (this is debatable) and so we have already paid for the land. We don't have the money to pay you again'. There is a logic to that argument. The responsibility of paying the farmer probably doesn't fall to them.
Simple answer though isn't it?
YT comments say it all:
- If land was taken illegally by the state and sold to someone else then it is the responsibility of the state to return the land but also to compensate the person they sold it to because the transaction was illegal.
- Crystal clear - the Municipality owned the land. They should compensate the farmer.
Enter our friend Mr Hanekom, the 'Land' minister.
05:58 on the video, Hanekom says (abridged) - 'If we can't get an agreement from the farmer then we take it to a land claims court and award the land to the 'claiming community'." then does a nervous little stare because he knows that what he is saying is so outrageously unfair on the white farmer.
But why would even a leftie Afrikaner do something as patently unjust to a fellow Boer? Doesn't he have the same feeling for the farmers and their ancestral toils? Oh, wait..
Takes a lot of digging to find out that blue eyed Hanekom is Jewish.

“It’s in a friendly atmosphere … We need to talk to each other a bit more,” he said.
In his experience in the ANC, which he joined in 1980, it was never the party’s intention to “exclude anybody”, Hanekom testified. .
whut?? So you can pretty much say anything? First amendment, right? Freedom of speech?
As Hanekom says:
“It’s in a friendly atmosphere … We need to talk to each other a bit more,”
