The Kanye West thread

You look at the criticism Kanye's getting, and you can't help but think that Kanye is the Roosh of rap.

Everyone knows that Roosh is a trend-setter in this space.

He was one of the first people to talk about pick-up, anti-feminism, and of course, Trump. When he came out about the God pill, I had a feeling this would be the next wave for our corner of the internet.

Similarly, Kanye has always been a trend-setter in his field. Autotune blew up after 808's and Heartbreaks, and fast, grimy Soundcloud rap blew up after Yeezus. That's not even mentioning the influence on fashion he's had.

With Roosh and Kanye coming to God around the same time, I can't help but feel like there's a synergy going on between them. Two trendsetters in completely different niches both converging on God (both Armenian Orthodox at that!).

I truly believe there's a Christian revival brewing in the United States and both these men are a testament to that.

It's a good development for Kanye and society as a whole. And I'm not surprised that this came from Kanye.

My only skepticism comes because he's signed to (((Def Jam))). Hopefully they aren't using Kanye to promote some type of Noahhide 'Christianity, 'Zionist 'Christianity,' or subvert the current Christian revival.

It seems unlikely at this point - the album is named 'Jesus is King.' Only time will tell how the record label plays this one though.

My gut is telling me that it seems like Joel wants to use Kanye's celebrity status to rake in more church donations.

Edit. Geez...the pastor earns more money than my Eastern Orthodox Church priest.
4. Joel Osteen
Net worth: $40 million

Joel Osteen is senior pastor at Lakewood Church, the largest Protestant church in America. Weekly attendance at the Houston-based church is 52,000. In 1999, Osteen, now 54, inherited the church and its television ministry from his late father John Osteen. Today, 7 million people in 100 different countries watch Lakewood Church broadcasts every week. Osteen’s book Your Best Life Now was on the New York Times Best Seller list for 200 weeks.

Royalties from Osteen’s book sales, radio show, public speaking fees, and church collection reportedly generate $55 million per year. He and his wife, co-pastor Victoria Osteen, live with their two kids in a $10.5 million mansion in the Houston suburbs. Osteen’s net worth is reported as $40 million. In August 2017, after receiving criticism for not helping Hurricane Harvey victims, Osteen opened his 16,800-seat Houston megachurch to evacuees.

Yep we all know who controls the record labels. They probably aren't the biggest fans of this whole thing, but Kanye is such a moneymaker they'll bite their tongue and let him do his thing to some extent I think.

The 1997 hip hop song "All About The Benjamins" from Puff Daddy (now known as P Diddy) featuring The Lox, Lil Kim & the late Notorious B.I.G. had a notable line from one of the Lox rappers (Jadakiss) in which he says "stack chips like Hebrews". The record labels forced him to change the line to "stack chips like we do".

I don't trust Joel Osteen. I went to his service in Houston and he pitched his congregation for $10 million so he can get on more TV channels (it's on my latest Babylon Road video). Hopefully Kanye declines the invitation.

One step at a time. When you dedicated your life to sin, it takes time to extricate yourself from it, especially when it comes to business.

Obviously Kanye has had some kind of visitation. He knows what hangs in the balance and is making good on that experience. There are people who will try to rein him in especially religious frauds.

When watching that clip of Joel Osteen I was thinking “There is no way that man believes in God”. It’s patent sales bullshit designed to rope in the same kind of people who buy into Amway.

This guy isn't bad. Former New Ager, now faith alone/Sola Scriptura/Catholics Aren't Christians believer who is pretty articulate.

Raises some good points. If you can get past the eyebrows, it might be useful.

He thinks Kanye is sincere and his conversion is real.

I can't get past the eyebrows. He must have to pluck to make them look that way. What on earth is he thinking?

He used to be a New Ager and made big bucks off Youtube. He has toned it way down.

"The response of Ye’s album only distinguishes those with a keen understanding of the reservoirs in the human soul, from those who can’t conceptualize spiritual transformation cause they have not their own personal experiences w/ it.

They won’t get it. But the ones who do, will.

The realization that your spirit exists within your body and shares your soul is mind boggling for those who commits to living life externally.

The mysteries of life can not wholly be discovered from the outside because life starts from the inside."

And well you should. Joel Osteen's late father, John, was a televangelist devotee of the Word-Faith movement, which believes you can(God-like) speak prosperity into existence and that sickness out of existence. Other examples of people in this movement are Kenneth Copeland, Joyce Meyer, and Benny Hinn. They are into all types of money-grubbing and lavish living. Joel inherited John's theology and melded it with the soft, feel-good positive thinking talk of Robert Schuller and Norman Vincent Peale (himself a modernist). There are many misguided believers at Joel's church, but he should be avoided. He's a favorite target of the Babylon Bee...

In the Ladder of Divine Descent, St. John Climacus tells the monks that Satan will attack them more then he did before they became monks. He says the monks are like soldiers on the front line now. They are Satan's primary target.

I know Kanye isn't a monk, but since he has so much influence over young people, I think he may face more obstacles now than he did in the past. There are many temptations and stresses present in the music and entertainment industry. He also has bipolar disorder which can make life difficult. I hope he is stronger now than in the past, like a solider who has gone through training, and will be able to fight.

One odd thing he has done recently is sell $225 sweatshirts and two pairs of socks for $50 on Easter Sunday at his Sunday Service at Mountain concert at Coachella.

I'd feel weird talking to a cashier with a scarf over her mouth. I think some religious people wouldn't like the scarf since it makes her look sinister. However, I like the weirdness of the photo. I like some of the weird, minimalist aesthetic choices Kanye has made since Yeezus, an album that seems like the opposite of JESUS IS KING. I like the light brown color and the "wind typeface."
