Lebron is taking serious heat for this in the general news outlets:
“This is absolutely shameful,” Fox Sports’ Clay Travis said. “LeBron had a week to come up with what to say and he decided to rip an NBA executive who defended democracy. Turns out if you pay him enough LeBron won’t just shut up and dribble, he’ll defend communist dictatorships.”
"LeBron literally has a show on HBO where they break down social injustices in America and how the system is letting people and children here down, but fuck all those people facing injustice in Hong Kong I guess because $$$"
"LeBron James and Steve Kerr becoming useful idiots for a authoritarian regime building concentration camps for religious minorities was never a square I expected to fill on my 2019 bingo card but hey, I’ll take what I can get."

On top of this, Lebron just gave 800 pairs of sneakers to students from his I Promise School yesterday:

Where do you think those shoes are made, and by who?
From an article from last year when Lebron wore his 'Equality' sneakers (
https://www.inquisitr.com/4806170/l...shoes-made-by-slave-labor-clay-travis-claims/):
"According to Nike, For LeBron, Equality means that no matter your race, no matter your background, no matter who you are, we all have the power to stand up and speak for something.
LeBron James is selling a tennis shoe with equality written on the back of it, which is made by slave labor overseas. The irony of this decision is mind-blowing. There are effective slave laborers sitting there making Equality sneakers so that LeBron James in America can pat his chest, and all the social justice warriors out there can say ‘my god look how brave LeBron James is; he is in favor of equality.’ The reality is this: The LeBron James Equality shoes are made in a fundamentally unequal way. And the money made from the LeBron James Equality shoes will be distributed in a fundamentally unequal way…
Travis is referring to allegations that Nike has historically obtained its shoes made in sweatshops in Asia that also employed child labor."
.... To be fair, I actually respected Lebron as a player and person overall before this.
Yes, he was left leaning and I didn't agree with everything he did, but I respected him overall for the work he put in to his career, being a decent role model to young kids (and having a good family), and giving back.
But, you have to draw the line when some one flip flops on democracy, and applies their values conditionally on such important issues like respecting the country you live in, based on personal agenda
It all just goes to show that when you start getting to these higher levels in society in the world where the most money and power is involved, the games get super high stake and it can lead you down a rabbit hole pretty quickly
Walk away like Owen Benjamin did and take your values and independence with you, or become a pawn and mouthpiece in a big geo-political game - no matter if you are a J (small hat), Chinese, non J American, white, black, whatever. Although we have a general idea of who the main power groups are, the overall game and power structures at play are always bigger than any one individual - there's no honor amongst thieves
