The NFL is dying

My dad still stays riveted to this garbage. He tells me all about the latest Buccaneers trade deal or what happened at the Braves games, despite me telling him on multiple occasions that I don’t watch it and don’t care. I suppose that’s just part of his generation and he can’t let it go. He’s smart enough to see what it is, but like an addict, he’s trapped. Why should I spend 8-10 hours a week watching overplayed athletes play a game to make billionaires even more wealthy when I can spend that time lifting weights, grappling, or spending time with my family? Makes no sense. Even if the NFL and MLB went fully based tomorrow I still wouldn’t watch. My time on this earth is limited and I have better ways to spend it.

I would just sit him down and say, "look, if you want to waste your time following that trash that is your business, I don't give two shits about who got traded to where for what, and I certainly don't want the how and why of it. Stop disrespecting me and stop wasting my time."

He’s the man who taught me how to fish, fight, and wrench on a car. He’s held my head while I vomited with food poisoning. He listened to me when I was distraught by the end of my first marriage. He’s never once let me down. I love and respect him with every fiber of my being. I don’t care about sports and I’ve told him that. He knows I don’t watch it and why. But if that’s what he wants to talk about, I’m going to listen. He’s my dad and he won’t be here in 10 years at the latest.

I guess if I were an NFL player I'd try to put up with this for a year, sock away as much money as possible, then quit. Even on a minimum NFL salary you should be able to save a few 100k in a year, enough to give you a great head start in life. Might be a blessing in disguise, as you might avoid the brain injuries they often deal with later in life.

Two people I know got brain injuries from vaccines. One former coworker, 36yo woman in very good shape, died from brain aneurysm the weekend after she was vaccinated, and my neighbor's cousin got the same thing a few weeks after his Pfizer shot. He survived, but with some neurological damage. So for NFL players it would be jumping from the fire into the frying pan...

Just say: "Dad I love to talk to you, but this boring. Let's talk about something interesting." and change the subject. If you do this consistently he'll move on to other topics to be able to connect with you. But you have to offer an alternative - find something in common.

If that doesn't work then do the same thing but change the subject to a topic that you like and he hates. Then he'll want to start conversations about things you have in common to avoid talking about things that make him uncomfortable.

Do this with charity because respecting your parents is a commandment.

Keep in mind the sports he grew up with was not the sports we know now. It’s Pops always cut him some slack trust me my Father drives me nuts if not infuriates me with some of his quirks and how stuck he is in his many times nonsensical ways but one day you’ll pray you can still talk sports or anything at all with him….

That’s how you talk to your father? I hope your son doesn’t talk to you like that one day….

I lost interest in pro and college sports gradually over a decade ago, and the process completed when I found RVF and what we used to call the manosphere. Still, I'm actually glad to have sports to talk about with my dad. Ideally he wouldn't be as into it as he is, but he is and it's nice to talk to him about something he enjoys.

I know all sports and I like sports but i can say the same thing, as I got older I realized these losers don’t pay my bills and they wouldn’t piss on me if I was on fire. Then after the political garbage they….forget it.

But reading what you just said almost makes me wish my father does like sports just to be able to have something to share together…

Just heard about the "Football is Gay" ad in another thread & here. A big "thanks" goes to the ((()))s who control and own most of the powerful ad agencies.

Sadly, it is not dying. My stepfather mentioned that all the tickets are sold out. He is a typical liberal and supports the NFL being 'woke' and I guess there are millions of other brainwashed people like him. What a waste of money and time. At least when you watch sit on your butt and watch decent movies, you might learn something useful or have your mind challenged or it may get you interested in finding out more (if it is a movie based on a real story). How does watching football improve your mind? I don't care about the NFL, but the problem is many do and this is part of indoctrinating people (as most on this website already know).

How can straight males still want to watch American football these days? Many football players are anti-American and now they are also pro-homosexual.
