The rise of alternative spirtualities in the US as traditional faith declines

The pendulum can swing the other way pretty quickly. Someone on this forum had talked about how the Puritans were a reaction to the degenerate behavior of the English majority in 1500s-early 1600s. I don't see USA becoming USSR lite without a massive government effort to actively shut down churches. And that's just not going to happen.
I think the trend will be to strongly encourage more "churchianity" to the point that mainstream Christian churches become essentially SJW organizations who occasionally mention Jesus. There's a Mexican priest at the Catholic parish nearest my house who's as likely to talk about the need for "immigration reform" in his sermons as anything that's actually in the Gospels. Another example I can think of is a few Mormon women I have on social media. In spite of what you'll hear on places like RVF about what good, traditional wife material Mormon women are, these ones just sound like garden variety SJWs who occasionally quote the Book of Mormon. One said she'd like to see their church approve gay marriage in their temples, and they're all as hysterical about Donald Trump and whatever the MSM has declared "racist" this week as any other virtue signaling white women.

It breaks my heart. Many evangelical churches, which are almost infamous for being very conservative, have fallen for progressive lies as well. I fortunately am part of a denomination that goes out of its way to prevent said heresies from entering the church, but 2020 has definitely put a dent in the defenses, particularly in the wake of Fetanyl Floyd. Lots of white guilt. Even at the two churches I spend a lot of time at I saw lots of it there. Most of it is just whites being browbeaten. Thankfully, at least within my churches, the primary emphasis is the Gospel and I believe it always will be. But for general Protestantism in the US, I believe what were seeing is judgement for how far away much of the church has strayed.

I've never met an atheist who stayed that way. They invariably become occultists, whether that be called New Age, Hindu, Pagans, Witchcraft, and other forms of magick.

Had a friend since High School. Staunch, Richard Dawkins type atheist. Blue pilled, needless to say. Fast forward 6 years, his girlfriend gets him into New Age and now he's carrying around chakra stones and tarot cards everywhere he goes.

What happened to him? No one else can stand him or his girlfriend so they spend all their time together even though they find each other insufferable as well.

What is it about the occult that appeals to so many young people while Christ does not? Christ is superior in every way.

It provides them a cheap and superficial fix to their lack of spiritual meaning while avoiding the harder path to face their egos and shortcomings.
They're so deep into the dark than even just a bit of light by God will destroy them.
That's why you have some people (SJW's, feminists, etc...) who react so strongly looking like they are literally possessed when faced with someone who carries a little bit of divine light.

Possibly adolescent rebellion, and in the case of younger adults adolescent rebellion that went on far too long. I really haven't been into youth culture in a long time, but I remember rebelling against mommy and daddy/Church/society/the Man/etc. in some way or another was the name of the game. From what I can tell modern youth culture is still centered around the whole rebellion aspect with Satanic heavy metal, the continuing popularity of violent or perverted rap, widespread pornography, youth homosexuality and transgenderism, rapidly spreading marijuana and designer drug use, and so on. Maybe some younger RVFers can clue us in on what's happening with that nowadays.

But anyways, it makes sense. If your entire zeitgeist is totally marinated in some kind of rebellion it would naturally follow for that to extend to religion. You can get muh feelz from youth culture via rebellion but actual happiness comes from God and everything associated with Him. Meditating with spirits (demons) while high on DMT will get you an overwhelming rush of feelz in the moment, whereas daily prayers and Friday fasts over years bring you long-term happiness.

And that's the problem with being an adolescent--they don't tend to think much more than 15 minutes into the future and so muh feelz becomes paramount.

A post on the previous page sums up the answer pretty well

So witchcraft and neo-pagan nonsense is the natural endpoint of the (post?) modernist mindset. It lets its adherents (particularly women) indulge in yet another identity-marker hobby to worship through their disposable income, and fill their luxury apartment with crystals and tapestries and other self-indulgent nonsense, without any demand or expectation to change anything about their themselves to meet any external standard.

Christ calls a man to carry his own cross and follow him. Denial of self is the heresy to the modern mindset. The modern man believes in self-actualization and "living their truth". Following Christ means that the most important things are NOT realizing your own self-defined goals and satisfying the desires of your own heart. Occultism is the opposite of all of this. Occultism is all about acquiring powers and secret knowledge that promises to increase your ability to project your own will onto the universe and to keep satiating the longings of your soul.

And to elaborate on the temptations of acquiring secret knowledge, I would apply this to both the hippy occult people and the fedora wearing I Fucking Love Science atheists. They both want to unlock the secrets of the universe that will they believe will elevate themselves, or if they aren't as individualistic, humanity at large. The only thing that differs is the content of the knowledge: the occultist wants the arcane-spiritual and the fedora hands wants the scientific-materialistic. The form remains the same. I personally haven't seen the same trend of fedora heads transforming into New Agers you have. If anything I see the former being very dismissive of what they call "woo" but I think the reason you've seen the transformations would be for what I just pointed out.

Funny you mention meditation with DMT. My old pal does that too. Know who he learned that from? That joe rogan dummy.

I know Christ is the true way because His model is one of devotion whereas every other faulty system of the world focuses on the id and the ego. I go to a cigar lounge every Thursday where we do a Bible study. We warn the younger guys about not only the occult but the Charismatic movement in the Church.

Too many churches focus on the emotional side and try to entertain as a way of sort of a mass hypnosis. We agreed that worship should be devotional rather than emotional. Give up for God not the other way around. Sad how many Xians I meet who don't seem to understand this or, worse, reject it. I've been telling people that worship of the self is the truest form of Satanism, its not just a bunch of guys in kooky costumes.

As churches go liberal, they lose attendance. Natural process. Meanwhile Pentecostal house churches are thriving.
The irony is I believe some churches went liberal because they thought it would help them gain/regain membership. I believe this was part of the purpose of selecting Pope Francis in the Catholic Church. After the priest misconduct scandals, and cultural trends, that caused membership to decline, they felt they needed a more progressive, "open-minded" Pope. A few years ago, when Rachel Maddow claimed she "loved the new Pope" , I knew it was gonna be bad. Even more irony is that the people involved in the globohomo system don't want to go to church! They only want that your church to become more progressive and degenerate. It's amazing that church leaders have not realized this yet, or perhaps they do, but to maintain their tax-protected status they make sure not to ruffle too many feathers, and trust the plan, so to speak.

Of course they want go to the synagogues and lodges. :squintlol:

But for some reason these subversion tactics never worked in over 2,000 years. Every time someone tries to subvert a church, some split happens and a new Bible-following denomination gains traction further multiplying believers in Jesus Christ. That's amazing to watch.

Instead we're seeing a sort of non-Christian hyper-Protestantism where people are adopting whatever sort of beliefs they feel suits their spiritual needs.

It turns out the non-Christian hyper-Protestantism you are describing has a name:

Moral Therapeutic Deism (MTD).

I think that the Occult is compelling, because it goes a bit further into Mysticism, which is in itself a part of Christianity, too. Furthermore, with the Occult you have absolutely zero skin in the game. It is like believing in equality. Actual religion is painful, traditional and requires a lot of discipline. I think that the lack of thereof in Protestantism and some of these tendencies in Catholicism make people come to the church less, as opposed to more. All these types that say that a church has to fit society and not the opposite are loonies.

Other than the disciplines commanded by scripture. The level of discipline is up to the individual.

This greater focus on internal locus of control has it's advantages and disadvantages.
