The Ron DeSantis Thread

I’m pleasantly surprised by Ron’s actions in office. I wish he would do a little more for water quality in the glades, Florida bay and the saint Lucie but at least he seems to be fighting the degeneracy. I don’t know. It’s hard to trust anyone these days.

Probably.

The whole thing makes me recall an anecdote from a certain book where the property owner had hired a shady property manager who they knew was some kind of gangster. They mentioned that they were fairly sure the guy was stealing money from him somehow, but they never did figure it out and the guy was doing such a good job in every other aspect that they figured he was worth it.

That's the thing. I thing in practice most of us are willing to tolerate them having their own little bit of embezzlement as long as they're doing a good enough job to make up the difference for the rest of us. Most politicians don't but I suspect that given the amount of business and cash moving to Florida that people will tolerate quite a bit from him.

I have some very extended family members, who when talking to my own closer family members, manage to find a way to rant about Desantis and Florida in every conversation. It seems to drive them insane that Florida is taking a lot of overtly anti-leftist actions (they really hate the anti-rioter bills) and having success anyway.

When Ron essentially told me I’m legally allowed to scatter rioters with my 3/4 ton diesel it brought a tear of joy to my eye.

Yes, make DeSantis POTUS so that he can have less power than he currently wields in FL. Smart move.

I'm always surprised at how short-sighted conservatives are.

Conservative: "They stole the election and the nation is falling apart!"
Other guy: "What should we do? How should we get ready for Balkanization?!"
Conservative: "Let's send one of our few guys to the national-level and vote harder!!!"
Other guy: "lolwut?"

Easy there, tiger. It ain't like there's ever going to be a Republican president again anyway, with the way the voting system is fixed up anyway. I just thought it was interesting that Ron DeSantis got a higher presidential approval than Donald Trump. Neither of the two would actually win in 2024. The show would be one to watch, though.

Seconded.

I will be selfish – I prefer DeSantis to stay here in Florida. In Washington, the SWAMP will devour him as it did to Trump The only thing that will EVER reform Washington seems to be (1) a revolution of (2) a nuclear bomb. Washington is just too far gone at this stage for us to even hope in vain that we can elect ANYONE who would actually change anything. The bureaucracy is now in full control and they are NOT about to let anyone change the system of power in Washington, DC.

No candidate who censors criticism of Israel is America First. Period.

There is a whole new crop of people positioning themselves as America First, continuations of the MAGA legacy, etc. There is one question that will always divide the grifters from the serious ones, and it's never asked: "Would you support a policy that benefits Americans at the expense of Israel?"

Every Israeli would answer "yes" without thinking to the opposite question, and they'd probably laugh at you for even asking.

And no candidate would get past the first utterance of the JQ so that point is moot.

In a perfect world a true America First candidate for POTUS would beat them at their own game. Play along to get along long enough to win then talk less and do more once in office...Reverse subversion... you know, the antithesis of DJT.

It is going to be interesting if he does decide to run. I know I know...even if he did and got 320 million votes, the commies' guy will get 321 million.

2022 is going to be a clown show and 2024 an epic full frontal wag

It's pretty shocking that DeSantis beat Trump in that poll, considering that most Republicans (especially the most politically active) fully believe Trump had the election stolen from him. So you have a huge number of people basically saying, "I'd prefer DeSantis as President instead of the guy I voted for less than a year ago and who I believe actually won the election." That's a pretty big endorsement and vote of confidence. It's a sign that most Republicans are starting to recognize that Trump is not a messiah or even a Caesar (he demonstrated that very well in the wake of the stolen election) and that it's time for a changing of the guard. A Trump sequel in 2024 is really not something that anyone on the right should be interested in. A new Trump candidacy would merely give the left and the media (but I repeat myself) a license to incite hysteria and allow them to make the election about something besides Joe Biden's utter incompetence and the disastrous policies of the globalist left. And we know by now that Trump would simply be in it to feed his own ego. He punted on every tough decision he faced and was essentially inept as a President, being effective only as a sort of cultural champion the right could rally around and as media gadfly/lightning rod with a preternatural ability to endure scandal and nullify normal media smear jobs.

DeSantis is a much more appealing political figure, in contrast. He is much smarter than Trump. He's the sort of guy who actually will sit there and dig through data, read reports and talk to different experts before making decisions. He is much more politically courageous than Trump. He was willing to go against pretty much every other major politician in the country as well as the media by opening up Florida last year when he did. But he recognized the truth contained in the data and wanted to do the right thing for the state of Florida and its citizens. He has the type of resume that most Presidential aspirants could only dream about - Yale undergrad, college athlete, Harvard Law, Navy JAG officer, U.S. Congressman, Governor of a large battleground state. And the guy's only 42 years old. He lacks the natural charisma and media savvy of Trump (because who doesn't? Trump is likely the most gifted person in this area literally, ever). But he's smart enough to understand what Trump did and why it worked, and so has similarly cloaked himself in populist garb, standing with the people and against the media and elites.

In short, DeSantis is a winner. He's as strong a horse as you are ever going to find in national politics. If he ran in 2024 and got the nomination he would probably be the single strongest non-incumbent Presidential candidate of the modern era. No one else has had the kind of resume he does combined with the inarguable leadership success under very difficult circumstances he's demonstrated over the past year. This is why the Democrats and the media are utterly terrified of him and trying to do everything they can do kill his candidacy in the womb. If the Republicans can crack down on the election fraud that happened in the swing states and prevent it from reoccurring, I think DeSantis would defeat Biden in a crushing landslide in 2024, eclipsing even the victory that Trump actually won in 2020 before the cheating began. The reality is that most people recognize Biden is a demented old fool, even the Democrats. He has literally nothing to offer in contrast to DeSantis. Nothing.

Of course, I don't think DeSantis is a messianic figure for the right. I doubt he could reverse our decline, but perhaps he could slow it and throw another wrench in the plans of the globalist elite, but more adeptly than Trump did. People talking about his cucking for Israel need to give it a break. You literally can't get elected dog catcher in the United States without throwing some bones to the you know whos. He's playing the game like any other politician. He has at least so far demonstrated enough political courage and genuine concern for the welfare of his constituents that there exists the possibility he would not govern as an Israel cuck. He certainly seems a better bet in that regard than any other politician on offer, at least.

So overall I maintain he is absolutely the best choice for Republicans in 2024 at this point. If he can continue what he's doing successfully I think this will become more and more apparent to people, and hopefully to Trump himself, who should bow out of 2024 and endorse DeSantis.
