Quick update across the board:

"Admiral Makarov" in Sevastopol /first from the left/ - "Yesterday, through the collective efforts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and NATO allies, the Tor air defense system on snake island was partially disabled. After that, the Ukrainian Air Force tried to make a massive raid on the island, in addition to unmanned aircraft, they attacked with at least two pairs of Su-24 and Su-27 tactical aircraft. The ship's air defense systems and fighters worked out in air - two Bayraktar TB2 UAVs and one aircraft were shot down. The rest got away...
And everything is fine with the Admiral Makarov - the frigate entered the home port."

And first from the right is another allegedly destroyed ship

Kharkov / ukrainian counter - Russian troops pulled out of some exposed villages. Now Russian troops control an 8 to 10 kilometer deep buffer zone between Kazachya Lopan-Rubizhne line /Rubizhne in Kharkov, not to be confused with Rubizhne in Lugansk/ and the border.

Lugansk / Popasna - "Military correspondents reported that on the night of May 6, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and nationalist detachments left their positions in the south of Popasna and retreated in the direction of Bakhmut.
During the retreat, they blew up the railway bridge in the village of Kalinovo-Popasnaya. Local authorities state that the position of Ukrainian formations in the city is deteriorating as the advancing forces encircle it".

Mariupol /rigth now/ - "A group of Ukrainian military went out in the Azovstal area with a white flag onto the road, where they received evacuated civilians. This was announced by the commander of the battalion "Vostok" Alexander Khodakovsky. The Russian military moved forward to meet the Ukrainian fighters as parliamentarians. This is the first personal contact of the parties for the entire time of the fighting in Mariupol."

Ive heard this rumor also. Intersting and all... but how does this video actually prove anything. That could be Bill Clinton for all we know.
Duran talked about this rumor... its very intersting, and I am sure nato elements have been there... but I would have suspected Canadian.

Yeah it's an old video.

Apparently though, there is a bigger fish yet than American NATO general Cloutier in the Azovstal bunker, Lieutenant General Trevor Cadieux, who was up to very recently the highest ranking general in the Canadian armed forces, equivalent of the US Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff.

Cadieux resigned in Sept 2021 after some kind of a sexual misconduct infraction, so he would be the perfect profile for an undercover mission in Mariupol, not being officially part of Canadian military, yet still being in the loop.

There are also, supposedly, a large number of high-ranking French intel officers.

I guess we'll find out later this month, there will be a bunch of emaciated NATO big fish in the final haul. Russia's goal is to have these high-level captives publicly describe the nature of the bioweapon program that was located in the secret labs beneath the Azovstal plant.

Popasna
"The long-suffering city of Popasnaya was liberated and came under the control of the allied forces of Russia and the LPR. The enemy, represented by the remnants of the 24th withdrew from the city, having suffered huge losses. The defense center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been destroyed, the strongholds have been destroyed and are currently cleared by the allies. Throughout the city, hiding and demoralized enemy fighters are being caught.
In the battles for Popasna, we lost a lot of worthy fighters.
Popasna has returned to her native harbor - to the Luhansk People's Republic."
First photos coming out of Popasna:

"Exclusive footage taken this morning of the stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the southern outskirts of the city.

Mariupol
"All women, children and people of the frail age were evacuated from Azovstal."- Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Irina Vereshchuk
Only fighting age males remain - there was a breakthrough attempt under the cover of evacuation, 3 Azov killed, 6 wounded

Snake island
At an evening briefing, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had repulsed an attempted Ukrainian attack on the Snake Island.

Ukrainian Mi-8 army aviation transport helicopters and the Stanislav landing craft calmly reached the shores of the island and began to land troops. After that, the RF Armed Forces struck. The helicopters and the boat were instantly landed. The few survivors retreated in rubber boats."
Ukraine lost:
1 Su-24 destroyed
1 Su-27 destroyed Destroyed
3 UAVs "Bayraktar" Destroyed
3 Mi-8 helicopters with troops Landing
1 Assault boat /Stanislav/ with landing force destroyed

The situation on the fronts on the evening of May 7 - google translated from Russian news

"During the day, Russian troops inflicted significant damage on the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), strictly following the plan for the demilitarization and denazification of the state. Thus, military airfields in the areas of the settlements of Artsyz, Odessa and Voznesensk were hit by long-range precision weapons. As a result, aviation equipment, including drones, and weapons depots were destroyed.
At the same time, with the help of Iskander missile systems on the territory of the railway stations of Krasnograd and Karlovka in the Kharkiv region, the RF Armed Forces eliminated large accumulations of equipment delivered from Western countries and units of the 58th motorized infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Also, pinpoint missile strikes near the village of Volcheyarovka hit 42 places of accumulation of Ukrainian troops, and near Seversk, two warehouses with ammunition. On the territory of the Sumy region, a missile attack was carried out by the Russian Aerospace Forces on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, from which Ukrainian units were shelling the Belgorod and Kursk regions.

Noteworthy was the increase in Ukrainian aviation activity near the Russian-controlled Snake Island. In the sky next to it, air defense systems shot down a Su-24 bomber, a Su-27 fighter, three Mi-8 helicopters with troops, and three Bayraktar TB2 drones today. At the same time, the Russian military destroyed the landing assault boat "Stanislav" near the coastline. Apparently, the Armed Forces of Ukraine planned to regain this piece of land, but were lured into a trap and suffered a complete collapse when trying to recapture the island.

On the Izyum part of the front, the splitting of the enemy defenses continues. There are positional battles with the use of artillery and DRGs. Northwest of Izyum, the enemy attempted a counteroffensive, for which a pontoon crossing was established across the river. Seversky Donets, which was destroyed by our Aerospace Forces.

Donetsk. The situation in Mariupol and its environs deserves special attention today. In particular, the commander of the Vostok battalion Oleksandr Khodakovsky told the media that for the first time since the beginning of the blockade of the city, a group of Ukrainian soldiers left the territory of the Azovstal plant and raised a white flag. Previously, they refused to negotiate - in the evening Irina Vereshchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine said that all the elderly, women and children were evacuated from the territory of the Azovstal plant.
Now the militants have no human shield left?

Lugansk. Today is a very significant day on the Lugansk front - the allied forces, together with the RF Armed Forces liberated the city of Popasna. Just yesterday, the allied forces broke through the defense line of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Popasna, and today the Ukrainian troops have completely left the village. As Boris Rozhin, a military expert and author, notes, progress in Popasna is connected with the involvement of Wagner PMC fighters in the liberation of the city, who showed themselves well in attacking the fortified positions of Ukrainian forces. Now our troops can develop an offensive on Bakhmut and take control of the M-03 highway - the main route to Slavyansk from the south, or close the group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Severodonetsk-Lisichansk agglomeration into a cauldron. Now the cleansing of the city continues, but it is obvious that the enemy is going to provide long-term resistance in other positions, to the west of the city.
The people's militia of the LNR stormed Severodonetsk. Shooting battles are taking place in Serebryanka, Belogorovka, Shipilovka and Privolye. There was also evidence that Russian troops had liberated another large settlement in the Lugansk region - Nizhne. At the same time, the Lugansk units were able to take the village of Svetlichnoye, not far from Lisichansk. The defenders of Donbass are in full control of the situation in the settlement, but the fighting is still going on there - the Armed Forces of Ukraine are trying to stay there, hiding behind civilians as a human shield. This was told by the official representative of the People's Militia Ivan Filiponenko.

On the Kherson-Nikolaev front, shelling of Ukrainian troops was carried out using mortars and cannon artillery. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are on the defensive - the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are inflicting missile strikes on the military and transport infrastructure in the Nikolaev region, and there is also a massive shelling of the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Krivoy Rog direction.

It is still not calm in Transnistria. It is reported about the shelling of the territory of the former airfield near the village of Voronkovo."

The saga of famed Canadian Sniper Wali and his journey to Ukraine has come to an end:

Once lauded by the international media, a Canadian sniper known as ‘Wali’ has returned from Ukraine to Quebec, telling local media that his experience there was a “terrible disappointment.” He claimed there was inadequate weaponry, poor training and heavy losses, as well as profiteering and desertion in the ranks.
When ‘Wali’ answered Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s call in March and volunteered to fight for Ukraine, he was given lavish coverage by the Western media. A former Canadian soldier who had also volunteered to fight with Kurdish militants in Iraq, Wali was described by Spanish media as “the best sniper in the world,” celebrated by American military bloggers for “hilariously troll[ing]” Russia and praised by the New York Post for “grabbing anti-tank missiles in a warehouse to kill real people.”
However, he said that reality left him disillusioned. Back home in Quebec, Wali told La Presse on Friday that his Ukrainian commanders initially “didn’t know what to do” with foreign fighters like himself. Tired of waiting for an opportunity to fight, Wali joined the ‘Norman Brigade,’ a private unit led by another former soldier from Quebec.
However, several members of this brigade told La Presse that weapons and armor promised by the brigade’s head never showed up, and some of its members found themselves near the front lines with no protective equipment. Around 60 members of the brigade have since deserted, its commander told La Presse, and some soldiers “schemed” to steal a $500,000 shipment of American-supplied weapons and form their own unit.
Wali eventually joined a Ukrainian unit fighting near Kiev, and described having to seek out weapons, food and gasoline. “You had to know someone who knew someone who told you that in some old barbershop they would give you an AK-47,” he recounted. “Even for the meals, it is often the civilians who provide them.”
In the end, Wali said that he ended up firing two bullets into windows “to scare people,” and decided to come home shortly after two Ukrainian conscripts he was posted with in the Donbass region exposed themselves to a Russian tank and received “highly accurate” shell fire in return.
I’m surprised he managed to survive. Of course, simply telling the truth about his experience will almost certainly get him banned from social media for “disinformation”.
-------------------------------------
IIRC, his departure from Canada and arrival at Ukraine was much reported. Next were erroneous reports of his death right after he arrived. Now, 6 or so weeks later, he's home and airing out the dirty laundry for the world to see.

Another little crack in the western propaganda dam.

Snake island events - timeline

02.05.2022 - ukrainians started to poke arounf the island with drones, 2 Russian Raptor boats were targeted

"As a result of an attack on May 2 by at least 3 attack drones, presumably 2 boats of Raptor project near snake Island were damaged, but continued to move under their own power and maneuver."

06.05.2022 - Air raid on the island /drones, missiles and Su aircraft/. Tor air defense was damaged. Serna class landing craft was targeted by Bayraktar drones. Fake news about Admiral Makarov appeared.

07.05.2022 - "The island was used as a bait - the forces of the Russian Armed Forces took off from it in the morning and retreated. Ukrainian Mi-8 army aviation transport helicopters and the Stanislav landing craft calmly reached the shores of the island and began to land troops.
After that, the RF Armed Forces struck" - that was posted yesterday - Ukraine lost 2 planes, 3 drones,1 landing craft and 3 helicopters with troops.
Today ukrainians show videos of the failed landing as Russian casualties

"Analysis of the video of the destruction of the Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopter on Snake Island
Today, South command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Bandera Media announced the destruction of the Russian Mi-8 helicopter on Snake Island and presented the following video in confirmation. But upon closer examination, it becomes obvious that the video captures the moment the Ukrainian troops landed from the Mi-8 helicopter and its subsequent destruction by the Russian side.
The video clearly shows how paratroopers are located around the helicopter, providing a landing zone (carried out when landing on enemy-controlled territory). Next comes the unloading of ammunition (if this is a Russian helicopter, then this procedure is redundant - the ammunition is already on the island).
And the last thing - the explosion of the helicopter was caused by ammunition of relatively high power (for example, FAB 250, 500), but not by the Bayraktar missile.
Thus, the Kyiv junta, in order to demonstrate another "peramogi", in its stupidity, confirmed the very fact of the destruction of its own helicopter and landing."

08.05.2022 - The Russian Ministry of Defense: "During the night, Russian air defense systems destroyed two more Ukrainian Su-24 bombers and one Mi-24 helicopter of the Ukrainian Air Force over the Snake Island, and a Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down near the city of Odessa."
Also ukrainian project 1241 corvette was destroyed - they had 2 such boats, "Uzhgorod" and "Grigory Kuropyatnikov", now only one is left.

The first linked video - the bayraktar strike on Raptor boats is already recycled and used to show another ukrainian victory...
Expect more productions to come out.

In short - western propaganda based on over-exaggerated events.
It's ironic that it was written on the 7th when ukrainians took a heavy hit - failed operation on Snake Island, and loss of Popasna

War of attrition ? - yeah, artillery works there 24/7. Is it strange ?
Massive bombardments ? - Precision missile strikes are going on across the country. Is it strange ?
Ukrainian counter ? - north of Kharkiv, Russians pulled back a little but that's it. - https://i.ibb.co/rHd64Sk/06-05-19-00-1-2.jpg
It's all in this thread

"Russian forces — pushing from the east, south, and from the north area of Izium, in eastern Ukraine, while using heavy artillery shelling — have still not made much progress on the ground, the European official said."
"The conflict in Ukraine is taking a heavy toll on some of Russia's most capable units and most advanced capabilities," U.K. Defense Intelligence said."

Russia’s strategy differs greatly from the rapid-advance, “leave as many enemy behind us as possible” days of late February and early March.
It’s now one of very slow, deliberate grinding down of Ukrainian forces through massed artillery, aerial bombing, ground and sea-based missile attacks, nighttime commando raids, and occasional tank raids against weakened positions.
The Ukrainians bring up forces, they get wasted, they bring up more, get wasted, and slowly Russia (and the Donetsk forces further east) move in.
There is clearly no hurry to advance; the main goal is to wear out the Ukraine’s human resources—and then, ultimately, there will come a breaking point, and everything will take care of itself.

Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General said that the general offensive of the Russian Armed Forces in the Donbass had not even begun yet.
The RF Armed Forces use a limited amount of available forces.

Commenters at moonofalabama believe it is true that Ukraine has mounted a counterattack NE of Kharkiv, acknowledging that retreating Russians dropped several bridges to protect their rear while departing. Nobody knows how meaningful it is, but definitely good news for UA forces. Russians may have just been re-positioning forces to other parts of the Donbass fight, which would've made a decent opportunity target for Ukraine to fill a void. Who knows.

As for Snake Island events recently, it appears both sides are claiming victory. It goes to show that much propaganda is floating around on both sides.

Popasna update

"Popasna: the strategic importance of the city or why surrender equals the loss of 150,000 hectares of land.
They have been fighting for Popasna for more than two months, and now we are receiving joyful messages from this city.
The struggle was for every meter, the city is lost for Ukraine. Why is the surrender of this city so dangerous for the Armed Forces of Ukraine?"

popasnaElevation.jpeg

"Popasna is located on a hill, about 260 meters above sea level, which is 100 meters higher than Lisichansk in the north and Svetlodarsk in the south, and more than 170 meters from Artemovsk/Bakhmut/ in the western direction. Control over the city allows you to shoot through and view a vast area in all directions for more than 30 km (sighting range of artillery). Therefore, the city is of strategic importance for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the DPR.
The occupation of Popasna will lead to the interruption of the Nazi support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Svetlodarskaya Bulge and in the agglomeration of Severodonetsk, Lisichansk and Rubizhny. Also, with the control of this settlement becomes possible for Russian and Luhansk troops to reach a large transport hub in the city of Bakhmut/Artemovsk/."

Kharkiv counter didn't advance in the last few days. No changes since friday, maybe because of those bridges ?

Near Kharkov, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are trying to counterattack in the direction of the border. After the withdrawal of units of the RF Armed Forces from Stary Saltov, the withdrawal of units from the northeastern outskirts of Kharkov was a matter of time. In order to prevent the RF Armed Forces from being locked in the boiler, the command made a decision to withdraw Russian units from Tsirkuny, Cherkassky Tishki and Liptsy.

Snake Island - I'll go with Russians on this. Why?

- No raise the flag / Iwo Jima pictures from ukraine. And we know they would love it.
- And:
"Ukrainian media report the death of one of their best pilots - the former commander of the 10th Naval Aviation Brigade of the Ukrainian Navy, Colonel Igor Bedzai. Under his leadership, the 10th Naval Aviation Brigade turned out to be the only Ukrainian unit that independently withdrew the remnants of its serviceable aviation equipment from the Crimea to Nikolaev. Despite such a desperate patriotic impulse in relation to the Ukrainian government, Colonel Bedzay subsequently did not disdain to acquire a Russian passport with a residence permit in the Crimean Novofedorovka.
The deceased pilot was one of the most experienced Ukrainian pilots. During his lifetime, he mastered several types of helicopters and even turboprop aircraft. According to journalists, Bedzai died on May 7: this indirectly confirms reports of Ukrainian aviation losses during the unsuccessful landing on Snake Island. Apparently, the pilot was just flying one of the downed helicopters with troops."

Breakthrough in northern Donbass - Russian troops crossed the Donets river near Belogorovka /halfway between Siversk and Lysichansk/

"It is reported from the field that the allied forces were able to break through the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Belogorovka area, forcing the Seversky Donets. Taking into account the offensive from Popasna, where the defense was also broken through, up to 8,000 Ukrainian servicemen entrenched in Severodonetsk and Lysichansk could be surrounded." - Russian TV correspondent Poddubny

"The loss of Belogorovka, coupled with the retreat from Popasna, creates a more than real threat to the Soledar-Lysichansk road, which supplies the northern part of the Donbass grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine."

The Russians Continue Grinding

7 May 2022 by Larry Johnson 31 Comments

If you are looking for a TV show ending to the war in Ukraine, this is not the place for you. This piece is written with the intent of trying to give you a variety of information that is not being reported on the mainstream news channels, western and Russian.

I want to start with the commentary of Austrian Colonel Markus Reisner, which coincides with my own recent analysis:

Austrian colonel and military expert Markus Reisner declared that Western countries are seriously mistaken in relying on large arms supplies for the Ukrainian army. According to Markus Reisner, ”the Russian army continues to make solid progress in its offensive against Ukrainian positions in the Donbass, and it will be victorious in the region. This is evidenced by the fact that most of the territories of the DPR and LPR, including large cities, are already under the control of the Russian army.
Russia also controls important facilities in southern Ukraine, on the shores of the Sea of Azov.” Austrian colonel also added that ”in the West they try not to talk about the obvious advance of the Russian armed forces and the Western media make a lot of efforts to hide the obvious successes of the Russians, which is a serious mistake”.

Markus Reisner stressed that ”He is following the situation in Ukraine from various sources, and concluded that the West is deeply mistaken in relying on large military aid supplies for the Armed Forces of Ukraine”. According to the colonel, ”it takes a lot of time to send weapons, and these weapons are spent literally in one day. And more often than not, these Western weapons do not even have time to fall into the hands of the Ukrainian military on the front line”. ”According to the US defense department, the weapons that the West sends to Ukraine during the week – runs out within a day. This means that Western weapons are immediately used by the Ukrainians and most of these weapons are captured or destroyed by the Russians. The Russian army seizes a lot of weapons”, – said Markus Reisner.
The Austrian colonel also drew attention to the high professionalism of the Russian special forces, which opposes the Ukrainian troops. According to Markus Reisner, ”Russian special forces successfully track down groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and neutralize them. This means that the supply lines for the offensive of the Russian Armed Forces in the Donbass are not damaged”.

He also noted the well-coordinated work of the infantry and artillery of the Russian armed forces. ”The Russian offensive in the Donbass is currently slow but steady and thorough, with significant artillery and infantry support. This is not a sign of weakness. Rather, it shows that the battalion tactical groups interact more closely with each other and are controlled centrally”, – said Austrian colonel and military expert Markus Reisner.

Without a functional air force and the capability to maneuver artillery and tank units, Ukraine is confronted with a war of attrition that it cannot win. Ignore the military activities and focus on the economic reality confronting Ukraine. Their ability to produce and export grain (a critical source of foreign exchange) has been damaged severely. Ukraine is no longer able to rely on container ships importing and exporting critical goods. Ukraine cannot replace this with truck convoys from Poland. At this point, Ukraine is like a soldier with a bleeding femoral artery. Death is just a matter of time.
