What a great thread (minus the modern posts). The old patterns and designs are really beautiful. They clearly borrow from nature with the fractal flowers etc., showing a cyclical nature. Forgive my poor wording, I lack the language to describe it because my mind is full of brand names instead.

If anyone has a book/resource on these traditional patterns I'd gladly read it. I'd like to at incorporate them into some of my work in a tasteful way. People likely won't wholesale take to wearing the whole costume (although id sure like that), but they'd likely appreciate the aesthetic subtly incorporated in a more modern style.

Traditional clothing represents and symbolizes a lot of what our culture has lost. For example head covering for women was almost universal - a reminder of the proper hierarchy. That is also the first thing to go in modern reenactments, making it look unnatural, at least in my view.
