It doesn't help that the Turkish authorities have absolutely no idea how to handle demonstrations like this.

Trying to calm a situation with tear gas is like trying to satisfy Lindy West with celery. It's just not going to happen.

Turkish equities down -10.5% yesterday, bonds off 11%....could get uglier before it gets better. Erdogan seems to have really misplayed his hand here and even people in his own party are calling him on it....

Why are people mad about a park being built on?

It began after a simple environmental protest against the destruction of Gezi Park was met with riot police.

After years of tension against Erdogan’s authoritarian stance against journalists, protestors, and even comics, the use of tear gas on peaceful protestors triggered the violent protests, with this image becoming the symbol of the protests:

Notice how this Turkish protest movement happened right about the time Roosh took a hiatus from blogging and talked about leaving Romania for something new?! Coincidence, I think not! I got my eyes on you, Roosh. From DC, hmm, maybe working for the CIA to cause havoc in another Muslim country.
Yea he's barley keeping his Twitter moving..

Hey Roosh while you're there you need to convince the Turks to move their cash into Bitcoins while they still can!

I should game some of these solidarity chicks before it’s too late. I'll tell them I’m a Turkish warrior fighting for the freedom of my people from the fascist police.

Ugly attention-whoring probably American or English women were waiting for an excuse to do this.

doesn't seem like Erdogan is going anywhere yet, but today there were more riot police storming the square's protestors:

Turkish long bond way off....EM markets in the region have been hit pretty hard lately...Turkish long bonds got hammered the last couple of weeks (down about 8 points), sure feels like it will get worse before better especially given the bond flows...nobody buying (but the markets have run uup a TON already this year).

Russia not feeling all that strong either now given our wonderful 1.6% GDP growth in the 1Q. We're still fine but things can get ugly in a hurry.....

EDIT: Sh*T I finally figured out that Taksim square is in a pretty swanky region of Istanbul right around where some 5* hotels and apartment blocks are (and near where I stayed last time). Supposedly one of the most European and Cosmopolitan areas of Istanbul. Wonderful...
