I've had the same thoughts. I imagine pilots, especially fighter pilots, are game for this fight - if no other reason than they will actually have a worthy adversary and time to prove their mettle. Maybe the same among Navy guys, where the battle is tech-based.
Otherwise, I doubt there is much spirit to "take it to those Russkies." Any infantryman that gets to sleep on cold, wet ground so he can have the pleasures of a direct-fire battle with Russians at first light is bound to have reservations. If any of them are paying attention to polling at home, they know the American population is not into this fight. That hurts morale going in. Men will fight for their lives, and their buddies, but they hate the thought of doing it for an unwilling home team.
Save a few glory-hound Generals (that 82d Airborne commander that brought the war-trophy Afghani jeep back for his museum comes to mind), this is no sandbox for play. I know one very well-seasoned special forces soldier that is not into this - at all.
Only caveat I have to this is that I've been out of service for some time. Things may have changed, as discussed plenty here.
Aside from a (maybe) technological advantage, this is a fight the US Army has not had in a very long time.
LOL! Someone picked australia for the location of ukraine? Which US university was this poll conducted at?
