I was really hoping Trump wouldn't endorse Ryan. Ryan's a globalist weasel, a total R.I.N.O. I have no doubt this "endorsement" was made solely for political reasons, perhaps to suggest stronger unity between Trump and Pence but still. My hope was Trump would endorse Nehlen, Ryan's competitor, but if Nehlen were to lose -- as it's been suggested is the likely outcome, Trump would gain nothing and very likely stir up even more trouble for himself with the GOPe.

It's one of those things that probably had to be done. For "party unity", so the media stops talking about it (and goes back to making shit up on some other storyline), whatever.

It's a moot point ultimately:

-Republicucks will feel a little better thinking Trump's been brought to heel, he's on board with their agenda, etc.
-Anyone who was voting for Nehlen before should still be voting for him, this doesn't change anything.

Seriously, anyone who was planning to vote for Nehlen but instead votes for Ryan because Trump "endorsed" him is a fucking moron.

If Trump endorsed Nehlen and Nehlen was slaughtered by Ryan which is pretty likely, it would be a full news cycle of crap that will continue to dog him instead of discussion of real issues. I can already imagine the headlines:

"Trump issues Kiss of Death to Nehlen with Endorsement"
"Mr Speaker's Win Proves Trump Has Zero Influence In GOP"
"GOP Base Is Tuning Out Party Nominee"
"Everything Trump Touches Turns To Sh*t"
"Trump Shows Poor Judgement"
"Trump Insults Catholics Across World By Not Standing With Ryan, Pope Francis to Blame Trump for Global Warming"
"P90X Community Marches In Solidarity Against Trump After Dissing Home Workout Legend Paul Ryan"
"We Know Trump Is A Racist. But Non-Endorsement of Paul Ryan Proves He Is A Widow's Peakophobe"

They endorsed probably because internal polling showed that Ryan would win in a landslide. Now that Trump endorsed, they can say that Ryan won because of him. If Trump endorsed Niehlan and he lost, it would hurt Trump. They must have calculated that Niehlan's odds are impossible.

Trump endorsed for party unity and both he and Nehlen look like the better men for being humble and gracious. The media have been denied the the prospect of a bitter war in the Republican party and Trump can remove Ryan at a later date.

Trump also got a sweetener from Ryan with the TPP vote being put off until after Obama has gone so it is effectively dead in the water.

Also, by endorsing Ryan that fuckstick should toe the line a bit better the next few months versus passive aggressively dropping his dick in every now and then. Ryan should be quiet from here on out.

I figured Trump would endorse Ryan eventually. Politics is a team sport. Trump is popular, but he is facing a cuck revolt.

I thought it was really funny the way he said,"I'm just not there yet." He was using Ryan's words against him.

A lot of the press portrayed this as a refusal to endorse...To me it seemed like trolling.

Also, if Nehlen wins, Trump can say "this movement is bigger than me, folks. I endorsed one guy and the other one ends up winning! You're calling the shots," and avoid having to wage war with the Chamber of Commerce Republicans during the General. The CoC won't be able to blame Trump if Ryan loses, and Trump can make the people look good and all-powerful.

Today's the big day. Will be interested in how close the gap is in the end, and how said gap compares to recent "polling".

If the Democrats were smart they would be uniting their member base to vote for Nehlen since it's an open primary. Getting Paul Ryan out of congress should be a priority for them as much as it is for us.

Guess we'll see...

It was perfectly strategic. He wins both ways; I think he's hoping hard that Ryan gets booted but the "endorsement" was clear contingency.

^ just googled and it says polls close at 8 p.m., so not before that.

Also not sure what time zone Wisconsin's in, I assume CST? which would be 9 p.m. EST, I guess.

If Ryan's really "up" 80-14 as the "polling" indicates then the race should be immediately declared for him when polls close. Unless that sort of thing only happens when there's exit polling and primaries don't have exit polls, in which case it'd take some time... but yeah, 8 central, 9 eastern, 6 pacific time. We'll see!

So assuming Paul Ryan retains his seat.

Does he remain speaker of the house or are changes likely to the Republican structure if Trump wins?
