Underrated Songs by Well Known Artists

You can take the title of the thread to also mean 'under-rated songs by well known artists' as opposed to over-rated artists.

It's amazing the way people give out about certain bands/artists, acting as if they've heard every single one of their songs. It's fair enough to claim that an artist is overrated, but it's important to remember that, no matter how well known an artist is, there will always be certain fantastic songs that they've written that many people will never ever hear. What's even more amazing is that a lot of these songs are not only good, but would also lend themselves very well to radio.

The point I'm making is that, for all I know there might be some Lady Gaga song out there that I'd really dig; but I don't know about you. But I'm always looking out for new good music to listen to, so feel free to share your own examples.

Christopher Cross - 'Blink of an Eye' (perhaps he's not that famous)

Fair enough nit picker! I'll change it.

Well you could actually argue that any artist that makes it into the limelight is overrated. For every one great musician that makes it into the limelight, there's probably another 10 who are equally as good that will never get a break.

And a lot of people would consider Elton John and U2 to be overrated.

Dire Straits is known for hits like Money For Nothing, but I think Private Investigations ranks right up there with the other songs they wrote.

This is a Kanye song that is far from perfect, but he talks about how he is not perfect and how he wants to talk to God, but he's afraid he's sinned too much. I think most of us can relate to some parts of this song. Keep in mind that this was in 2004, long before Kanye claimed to be Christian.

Re Dire Straits: I think most of the songs of their first two albums ("Dire Straits", "Communique") are underrated...
