Yea I looked at them again, you are right. I was reading the bottom of the bottle, which only shows the "inactive" ingredients. Active is on the top and lists the offending substances. The copper tone, neutrogena, and banana boat all have it.

I would definitely not skimp on that, since it costs only 20$ for a good product. Sunscreen is on the skin for hours or days and interacts with the skin extensively.

Health is: nutrients minus toxins plus exercise

In our world there is no reason to put more toxins into our body. It's better to eat like Hippies, but live like Marines.

I know this is an old thread but I just spent an hour trying to find a sunscreen that was decent and thought Id share what I found.

EWG do recommend loads, however lots of them make can make you look like a ghost so make sure you check reviews.

and make sure you understand the EWG rating as going through each individual ingredient is viable unless you want to spend days researching.

One that looks most appealing seems to be the beauty counter one, but its really expensive.

Good thing I spent my early years growing up in West Africa, that means no need for sunscreen!!!


(You might get sunbunrnt though if you grew up in a mild climate, even if you are black)

You wanna protect your kids from the sun? Raise them in Africa!

Flats fishing is my primary hobby so I spend a lot of time either fishing or pushing a skiff around in full sun. I try to minimize sunscreen use simply by covering up. If I’m going to be on the skiff all day, I wear a long sleeve shirt, lightweight pants, closed shoes, a buff or neck gaiter, sunglasses and a hat. I may look like the Unabomber but my sunscreen use is limited to the backs of my hands and a small area of my neck.

I'm white and currently get up to 120 minutes of sun exposure (cloudless weather). I get a tan, but no sunburns so far, not using any sunscreen. Didn't grow up in Africa.

It's really better to wear UPF clothing as the majority of sunscreen only blocks UVB rays but not UVA.

I stopped using any SPF products years ago. I've probably only burned once or twice since then. Now I just load up on anti-oxidants, usually berries, before going out in the sun. The red in your skin is basically signalling that your body is low on anti-oxidants. So you need to give your skin a rest. You can greatly increase your resistance to the sun without contracting latent skin cancer if done properly, and no need for any helper or blocker.
