What’s Behind the Normie Sentimentality for Betty White?

RIP to her and condolences to her family. As John Donne stated, “Ask not who the bell tolls for…it tolls for thee.”

That being said, I’m not sure I understand the normie sentimentality in her passing. I have seen quite a few people on social media(s) that are lamenting her death. Also, the general media seems to be shining a brighter light than normal on her life.

But I never remember somebody saying, “Hey, did you see that movie/show with Betty White? Wasn’t it great?” But now people are reacting as if they had a deep, long-term relationship with her entertainment career.

Also, I thought that we were supposed to hate old white people. You would think that the media would be largely indifferent to a woman of her generation.

Any thoughts?

Betty White has been around forever. She was a sweet old lady, but also played some characters that were edgy. She looked sweet, but then would have saucy lines.

Everybody loved her, so they can enjoy a little pleasant sentimentality over her passing. That's all it is. I suppose there are a few that are broken up, but they're just weird.
