There are other micro brews and localish brews I like better, but as far as mainstream beer goes this is it

Suits,

No. I'm from, and currently live in, Maryland but went to school at U of M. It was there that I was pleasantly introduced to Founder's and Bell's. I never would have imagined Michigan to have two of the better breweries in the country (or world, according to BeerAdvocate.com).

I did four years worth of school in GR. My last two semesters, I started hanging with a group that would hit up Founder's every Monday for discount night.

The staff always had a great attitude and all the beer was impressive. I very much enjoyed a habanero infused beer that was offered occasionally. One of the few beers you'll always sip, not drink.

However, the porter you've provided the photograph of changed my whole perspective on darker beers, although I've yet to discover another porter that is quite as good.

Honestly, I had a very bad attitude when I first moved to Grand Rapids, but after some time of actually investing into finding out what the city had to offer, I discovered that it punches way above it's weight population wise.

I have no comments on the women, there's a variety available, but if you honestly wanted to simply vacation somewhere interesting and varied, it would be a cool city for anyone to check out.

There's a leading travel guide series that calls GR the best city for beer in the USA (or maybe the world, I do not recall which), but the city is also host to the biggest weekly swing dancing event worldwide and offers museums, parks and other cultural stuff.

Lots of art venues and there is an annual art contest called Artprize that is just massive. You can spend the whole day looking at the entries.

Different parts of the city have different flavours, but most importantly....great beer.

In all my years in AA I believe I ventured west of Washtenaw County once - a trip to Traverse City. From what I heard Grand Rapids was somewhat similar to AA without the sanctimonious hypocrisy.

I very much had a love/hate relationship with UM and AA. I came from horse/farm country in Central Maryland. I did not know jezebel and tumblr feminists existed until I went to college.

I do miss the area, though. I swear the best Thai this side of Bangkok is a small place in shitty Ypsilanti. As for the girls... I believe the saying goes something like "A Spartan 6 is a Big Blue 10". And the guys? At 6'1 and 190 lbs who squats and DLs, I felt like fucking Dwayne Johnson compared to the hipster fags who polluted the campus.

I'm a broke college student, so my choices are pedestrian.

In terms of taste/volume for price: Yuengling

Getting drunk? I want an Olde English or a Mickey's.

In terms of pure taste? Guinness/Newcastle

For taste and volume with slightly higher price: Red Stripe

Miller Lite

Good taste, great bang for the buck, no ricey aftertaste (looking at you Bud)

The original white can is an absolutely beautiful piece of design as well. I was so stoked when they brought it back temporarily, I wanted to hang onto a few. Now that its permanent I just toss them but I do appreciate how pretty it looks.
