A 3 year old Blackberry curve.

I pay $35 a month, unlimited texting and local calls. No caller ID.

Considering that plans in Canada are extremely high (its not uncommon for people to spend +$80 a month), I'm satisfied.

In the US market - look at Lycamobile. It's a pay as you go service provider that's piggy backing on T-mobile network. You will need an unlocked GSM pphone of course. I spent less than 10 dollars a month and I use internet and talk minutes.

I have HTC One after getting two IPhones stolen. But for my next phone I'm moving to a cheap samsung I think. I don't like the idea of losing a few hundred if I leave my phone on the table and am not looking for a minute and somebody snatches it.

Got a Verizon flip phone with the unlimited calls/texting plan. I've dropped this phone more times then I can count and everything still works great despite a couple scratches. Not getting rid of this thing any time soon. Phone and battery are a couple years old and I still get about 7-10 days of battery life per charge. Love this piece of shit.

Hey gents, maybe you can help.. I did a thread search but it's taking a while. So I decided to post here.

I needed a game phone so I got a cheap Nokia 520.

I don't care to call girls too much but would like unlimited texts if possible, or maybe just 500 texts to start (maybe that'll benefit me since I'll be more brief given the limit).

I've been looking at Airvoice and Cricket and Airvoice has got some $10 plan for 250 minutes OR 500 texts. Not even sure how that works.

And.. How the hell do I get a number and activate this thing?

Forgive me if I sound clueless as fuck. Truth is I am and need help.

Of course, a quick response would be appreciated as I'm planning on texting my first number of 2015 with this. Yea yea.. I know January is almost over.

Samsung Galaxy S5 on AT&T Next care plan so it basically means I can rent this phone for a set amount of months instead of waiting 2 years to upgrade to a new phone. I was also grandfathered in on the new goodies and plans which is also an unlimited talk& text plan with 3gb's of data so I can catch up on the forum news on the go.

T-mobile has a deal with Walmart. Unlimited data (first 5GB @ 3G) and text, 100 minutes of voice for $30/month no contract. I hardly ever use my minutes. I mostly text. If I need more minutes I just add $10 or so to my account.

Works pretty well, because now I have an excuse not to pick up the phone when my boss calls in the middle of the night. I cancelled Comcast and use the iPhone teather if I really need Internet. Otherwise, it's an excuse to go out to a coffee shop or library to watch some youtube videos. For email, Facebook, and rooshvforum cellphone internet is plenty fast.

Phone: Samsung Galaxy Light T-399.
samsung_T399-big.jpg

Purchased for $50 through a slickdeal involving Walmart (phone sells new for $150). It's a T-Mobile branded phone, so it was locked to them. After a cheap unlock code I can now use it with my AT&T SIM. Galaxy Lights are all the same as far as GSM/LTE bands go, and work on T-Mobile and AT&T's LTE. The MetroPCS variant already has a KitKat ROM available, my T version doesn't yet. It's fairly fast for a budget phone, and has the same screen size as an iPhone 4/5.

Plan: I bought an iPad 3G model back in 2009 when they first came out, and as such I was able to purchase the $29.99 unlimited plan that went with it.
att-data-3options.jpg

This plan was only sold for 3-4 months so at this point in time it's extremely rare and expensive on eBay. It's the only AT&T plan that actually has true unlimited without throttling. Various theories exist as to why there are no restrictions imposed on it, but the general consensus is that so few people were able to buy this before it was discontinued that AT&T didn't care what people did with it. More important than being unlimited is it's also portable, I can move the SIM to anything I want: hotspot, USB modem, smartphones. So after I figured this out a few years ago I've used it in phones exclusively. Tethering also works so I don't have internet service at home. Most I've ever used in one month is ~50 GB. The only downside is this is DATA ONLY, so I text through Google Voice and have a dumbphone I carry sometimes when the need for calls arises. The best plan for unlimited would be one of those Verizon unlimited ones, due to FCC regulations it's also portable and unthrottled, plus has voice service.

^^^ Lycamobile is the best SIM to have if you need a glovebox phone. Refills are $10 minimum, and you only need one billable event (read: phone call or text) every 90 days to keep service active. So if you never use it, at 2 cents per minute $10 will last forever. You will need an unlocked phone in some cases to use Lycamobile because the early SIMs they issued use a different MCC (mobile carrier code) than T-Mobile does (although it uses their network), so T branded phones won't work if locked.

New SIMs from Lyca use a different plan that costs more, but I think the expiry is the same. They also use T-Mobile's MCC so locked phones will function with it.

Data-only:

If you just need data, FreedomPop is the way to go. Practically free devices, and free 500 MB of WiMAX/LTE service through Sprint per month, which can be doubled by adding a bunch of "freedom friends" e-mail addresses. You can stack some of their sub-$5 addons like 3G network access and data rollover.

I have two FP devices, a Novatel MiFi 500, and a Franklin U600 USb modem. The MiFi has good battery life and is future-proof because it supports LTE on all of Sprints planned deployment bands (800, 1900, 2500) in addition to dual band CDMA/3G.

It also supports USB tethering to your PC so you can use and charge it at the same time. The only downside is there are zero external antenna ports so if signal sucks where you are it won't be usable. FP does offer a MiFi device with antenna ports however it's an older model which only has LTE support on 1900.

The Franklin U600 is a WiMAX and CDMA device, but does have antenna ports.
franklin-sprint-u600-rfport.jpg

They're giving these WiMAX devices away for free or next to nothing because Sprint is shutting off WiMAX this year so after that only the CDMA/EVDO portion will function.

I've got a Lumia, running windows phone OS, on T-mobile.

Mixed opinions about Windows phone. It's a fantastic productivity enhancer thanks to a bevy of features that are beneficial to work users like integrated MS Office, a document scanner that automatically converts to word, auto-sync with your onedrive, and so on.

For entertainment or fun it's not such a rosy picture. The "handy" apps like navigation aren't as numerous or good and there's a dearth of games that work on the OS.....which is fine by me because I don't recommend playing on a phone. It's terrible for your eyes, concentration, and general well being.

Anyone tried a dual SIM card phone where both sims can be active concurrently? Dual SIM card phones should be great for travel when you want to use your home sim and a local sim at the same time without having to carry two phones.

Rock an iPhone 5 as my main phone, running the latest iOS with an 8 letter password for added security. Got a giffgaff package which allows me to cancel the sim with the click of a button if the phone goes walkies.

Have an Alcatel OT-209 that was 99p brand new as well. I turn it off when I don't use it and have only charged it three times in the year or so I've had it.
