I live in a centralized spot in NW DC. I thought about the commuting time I had before in Arlington, group house roommates, their drama, and the constant rotation of looking for a replacement roommate after one left, the proximity to my office, the elimination of using Metro to commute back and forth from home to office, proximity to preferred grocery and gym locations, and nightlife close to home. I'd say plan to throw another G like you said to cut out the hassle. Do it and get your own spot even if it may be small and not conducive to having guests over a lot.
