It is funny how the political tide has turned. It wasn't too long ago that Reagan and other conservatives hated and feared Russia (USSR). Remember the "evil empire"? It wont long until Trump changes his tune on Russia once his is fully debriefed by his military and intelligence advisors.
On the one hand, you say Russia has suffered and imply that's bad, and on the other you say we should fear and hate them.
Russia isn't the USSR. I'm not interested in importing Russian immigrants wholesale but I see no reason to fear them. They don't want a fight with us. The biggest problem I see in US-Russian relations is the crazy Cold War-leftover boomer fear of Russia. If that disappeared, people would be a lot less tolerant of Obama's repeated provocation of Putin for absolutely no good reason.
I am not saying we should hate or fear them. (In fact, I had some amazing times in Russia, but that was for other reasons not related to politics). I was placing the current political sentiment in a contemporary historical perspective. I do subscribe to the philosophy of "trust, but verify" as it relates the Russia.
