The Holy father’s have prophesied that monasticism in the latter days would be weak compared to days past, but even so I’d think asceticism, however weak it may be, is more beneficial than what the world offers. Same with marriage. While the world works to dismantle marriage, entering into and staying in one is more beneficial than the atomization the world offers.

I imagine numbers will improve if there is a harsh recession. The quality will still be low though as most recruits will simply be doing it for the paycheck and lack motivation.
