Using Twainspeak would require a pretty rigorous adherence to convention beforehand I suspect. Have you ever read "A Tramp Abroad"?

That kind-a ver'naculer might'n be dun-right frown'd u'pon.

Since Tuthmosis didn't reply to my PM, I'd like to ask if some of you could help me with the following. I've received a warning for 'textspeak' but I truly can't discover what I'm supposed to do different.

http://www.rooshvforum.com/thread-48244.html

Can anyone please tell me? I want to follow the rules but I can't when I don't know what rules I'm breaking..

EDIT: Guess I found it. Should not be using @ to replace 'at'.

You used the "at" symbol three times in your post. The "at" symbol (@) is not a word, and it shouldn't be used in normal prose unless the situation calls for it.

One other word of advice for you. You're skirting into dangerous territory with your post here (above) when you publicly complain that "Tuthmosis didn't reply to my PM."

That sort of thing is not done here.

.
Thank you for the heads up. I'm not doint it to talk sh*t about him or anything. I can image he's got something better too do then reply every lame PM about a warning. That is all.

So if I offended or wronged anyone with this, I'm sorry, it wasn't my intention,

If you're serious about being a valuable contributing member of this forum, take a look at the bolded portions of your post, as quoted above.

Your intentions may be good, but your on-going punctuation and spelling errors send a different message.

Also, writing shit as "sh*t" has been frowned up here as well. Either use the word or don't. I don't like it personally, so I don't use it. I do throw out a "fuck" once a while when it's appropriate to what I am attempting to communicating.

It would be wise to patch things up with Tuth. He works hard to keep this forum from descending into chaos and we all benefit from his commitment. It's best if you communicate in whatever way comes naturally to you, that you appreciate his hard work and there are no hard feelings about the warning you received.

Since it's hard to communicate tone when writing on the Internet, it's usually best to go above and beyond to not write anything that might come across as sarcastic or catty. Unfortunately, we've had a few members here who were very pleasant guys in person, but their in-person personality didn't translate well when it came to the Internet. Don't be that guy. Just go above and beyond to demonstrate goodwill whenever possible.

Otherwise, I'm sure we are all looking forward to your positive contributions to the RVF. Best of luck.
Thank you for this! :)

The 'doint' is a typo and I keep having trouble with to/too.

Like I said there aren't any hard feelings towards anyone, I just didn't understand why I was warned. Now I do, and ofcourse I will try my best to be a contributing member and not just someone that is leeching without crediting my 'source'.

As a non-anglophone i appreciate the constructive criticism.

Us foreigners use a lot of english "text speak" mixed in our own language, the american influence is unstoppable and our own language is degenerating as well, which bothers me too. I'm glad there are fora like these who care about proper grammar, it will only help me with my english. I don't understand why anyone would have an issue with that.

Wetin be your mother tongue?

Yes wetin be my mother tongue. [!]

My mother tongue is dutch.

This forum is the strictest one I've encountered with respect to punctuation and grammar. At first I thought it was a bit overkill, but it keeps the quality here high as other forums degrade into oblivion. It also helped me become a better writer.

No forum for you by the ever popular Grammar Nazi:

I am somewhat guilty of using occasional abbreviations, but I am no natives speaker. I think that the new smartphone generation is so dumbed down, that they need to be explained the rules here. They honestly do not know.

However sending textspeak emails in your application to companies is like sending your CV with your dick-pic - utterly mindless.

About a year ago, some young guy I befriended in Toronto told me that it was "weird" to use punctuation when we chatting on Facebook. I never talked to him ever again.

2014...the year when people began to be criticized for correct grammar.

It's especially funny reading all of this after the fact with a line through the poor fellow's name.

I'm just glad there's a place trying to keep standards up.

God knows we need it.

I tend to be very suspicious of men who use "lol" in their written communications. Of course, "lol" means that the writer is amused by something, but "lol" can't express the degree or nature of his amusement. He could perhaps refine the meaning by adding one or five explanation marks, or writing it in capitals, but a catch-all cluster of letters used universally in every situation cannot adequately express subtle meaning.

It really is the dumbing down of language and therefore the dumbing down of people. If you are unable to accurately express subtle meanings due to lack of suitable language, your experience of the world is necessarily impoverished.

"Lol" is the 21st century equivalent of "good," (usually a vague and unhelpful adjective), "LOL!" is the equivalent of "plusgood," and "OMFG LOL!!!!!!!!!" is the equivalent of "doubleplusgood."

The only time I use "textspeak" is when it's 100% intentional, e.g. talking with women/people that I want to convey they I am putting minimal effort into communicating with them, or when I am busy and need to text someone information so I use as much brevity as possible to get message out quickly.
