Nope.

I'm not fighting in any war. As an atheist, I think this life is the only one I've got, and I'm not risking my precious skin voluntarily.

It's cheaper to pay Mercs then run a Draft.

No health care or veteran pensions with

The truth of the matter is that as scary as it sounds WWIII is inevitable. My guess is within 10-15 yrs.

Get ready.

Call me naive, but I think the day of large scale wars between major powers is over. Most fighting in the future will be regional conflicts where we use drones and small battalions of Marines in a precise and surgical operation. Operations like Libya or seal team six.

I think war in Europe is over. There will not be another war fought on European soil. There will likely be none in the Americas either. Latin American countries are most focused now on building their economies, not border skirmishes. India and Pakistan, N Korea, Israel and Iran are continuing hot spots. I don't think we'd go to war over Pakistan and India, but if Israel were attacked we'd likely be drawn in. N Korea probably poses the biggest threat of a major world conflict. That country is just batshit crazy. I don't see us going to war with China. They are too focused on building their economy and attacking the US would be financial suicide given how much of our debt they've bought. It's not in their interests to go to war with us. Africa will continue to see wars and skirmishes of all sort, but these countries are militarily weak and pose no threat outside of Africa.

I think a conflict that would require a draft is very unlikely in the foreseeable future.

This is gearing up right now and you will see more stuff happen after the US elections in November. Israel wants to attack oil-rich Iran, this will draw bigger countries like Russia/China on the Iran side.

As for enlisting, I am not and I will not be canon fodder for some super elite families that will make trillions of the war effort.

I would hide in South America or whatever pussy paradise there might be that is safe, experts claim the southern hemisphere would be safer against nuclear attacks.

Hell no. If there's a draft, I'm dodging it. Also, I can't imagine how soft the army would be. There are hordes of this :gay: and this :fatter: everywhere. For some real killer instinct, get some American women in combat boots. Equality, right?

The military wouldn't have me as I'm too old at this point. But if we got involved in a major war, a war with real losses, it's not about who would enlist, it's about who can avoid being drafted. And draft dodging won't be as easy as it was in the 60s.

"In modern war you will die like a dog for no good reason." - Ernest Hemingway

I'd sooner flee the country than voluntarily serve myself up as cannon fodder for the bankers, corporations and corrupt politicians that have run this country into the ground.

There's a lot of ways WW3 could go down. Maybe the Middle East goes shishkabobs and the major powers take different sides.

In any case, would you voluntarily enlist in your country's military if WW3 did happen right now? Or would you go ghost and loot and pillage while the world burns?

Assume your country is fully committed.

Define ''World War Three''.

The War on Terror involves American forces fighting all over the world, so technically the War on Terror is a world war. You Americans even have the whole home front propaganda thing going.

It may be low intensity but it's nevertheless the United States attacking multiple targets throughout the world : Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Lebanon, Indonesia, Somalia, etc etc

How is that not a world war?

Bear in mind that the concept of ''world war two'' is a journalistic invention. The Great War was only named ''world war one'' more than 20 years after the fact.

Since there is a world war going on, this is not a ''what-if'' scenario. My understanding is that an American can easily volunteer to fight in a combat area, today. No need to wait.

If I was ever conscripted to fight a war outside my home country, I'd put a bullet in the head of any superior officer who I knew supported my slavery. If I was pretty sure I could get away with it. I'm not suicidal.

This kind of fragging was all the rage in Vietnam, and for good reason.

But before it came to that I'd do my best to be smoking cigars and banging the native women in some other country I'd slipped away to.

No way in hell I am defending a country where men are second class citizens. If the United States goes to war with anyone I bet that the other country would have more respect for men and treat men better.

I don't understand drafting, perhaps someone could enlighten me? So they force me to wear a uniform and move into a barracks, what's stopping me from sitting on my ass and refusing bare-faced to go into combat?

You get charged with dereliction of duty and put in front of the firing squad. Aussies are notorious for not being able to shoot, so you should be safe.

Remember all those guys going "over the top" in WWI? A lot of them weren't too keen on it. If someone refused at the big moment he was often shot on the spot by the CO who kept a service revolver for the purpose. This happened a lot. Summary executions are very common in wartime, and the family never finds out the truth.

I'm a college grad on DEP right now-shipping out in a couple month. Credit's fucked up now so no OCS for me until that gets cleared up. The main thing is that I realized a few months ago that my 3yrs of post-undergrad bitch-ployment have amounted to not much except anger, frustration, a CELTA Certificate to teach English and the ability to straight-faced lie to motherfuckers so that they buy shit I'm selling for someone else or myself.

As I currently read Aaron Clarey's, "Worthless", I realize further that I shot myself in the foot taking up a single major in the Liberal Arts (Foreign Lanaguages), when it would have been wiser to study that in conjunction with an int'l business degree, which I plan on getting the military to pay for. I don't know what my enlistment stint will bring me but I know that I will not waste my life again standing around like a zombie bouncing around from one bitch retail job to another like the AFC I used to be.

Eh, congress can't even pass a budget. I don't think we have to worry about re-enstating the draft anytime soon.

They've (Congress) pretty much engineered the socio-economic shit-storm we're in to the point that recruiters in the Air Force, Navy and Army (esp. in the first two) are turning folks away because so many of the 20-somethings with "worthless" degrees like me need someway to pay our loans back.
